Beauty Adventures: What’s the deal with a Chemical Peel?

If you’re going to spend money on one beauty treatment, make it your face. With so many options including injections and facials on the market these days, how on earth does a woman make a choice?

First and foremost find a clinic you can trust preferably via word of mouth. Once you’ve gotten some positive feedback from a friend or blogger (hint hint), go ahead and book a consultation. Go prepared to ask lots of questions. When you are ready to book s procedure you will be at ease with your skincare expert. For me, that skincare expert is Rita Moldovanos of Pure Light Laser. As a busy blogger, media personality, adventurer and Mom, I find that I don’t have much time to spend on myself. I’ll be the first to admit that when I came to Rita my skin was looking tired and neglected. With not much of a beauty maintenance program, I looked to her for advice. She recommended a chemical peel followed by microdermabrasion, a quick double whammy that promised my skin an instant reset and a chance to get back that glow my skin was lacking.

Having never had a chemical peel before, I didn’t know what to expect. As Rita applied the product to my face, other than a slight odour, the application and activation process were painless and pleasant. It allowed me a chance to relax and unwind while the peel worked it’s magic, removing all the dead layers of skin that were screaming for some attention and love. Rita then wiped off the peel with a warm cloth and I was left under the steam to open my pores for the second stage of the treatment, extractions and microdermabrasion. Call me crazy but I love knowing that every blackhead on my face was being individually targeted and annihilated. Now my skin was primed and ready for microdermabrasion.

Diamonds are a girls best friend and that includes the Diamond Peel™ medical-grade microdermabrasion system. A gentle but effective machine that polishes your skin with real diamond chips then literally vacuums all the lifeless skin away. The process is painless and leaves you feeling like a new woman post treatment. Microdermabrasion has become a common at-home beauty practice but the difference it doesn’t begin to compare to Rita’s professional system.

At the end of my treatment, although my skin was a little pink and flushed but that did not last long, as early as the next morning my skin was glowing, refreshed and completely renewed. According to Rita, for best overall longterm results, chemical peels should be done every few weeks and microdermabrasion an initial 3 sessions before you can then spread out your treatments. For me, sun damage is a big issue. I have always been a sun worshipper and my skin has paid the price. Thanks to Rita and Pure Light Laser, I’m more educated and aware of the steps I need to take to maintain my healthier, happier and younger looking skin.
