I was fortunate enough to attend the screening of 50 Years of Going Beyond. The event took place in Whistler and was attended by about 250 people, mostly locals. The audience was a potpourri of young and old, athletes and ex-athletes, Whistler originals and newcomers. I expected to see a Warren Miller type of film, with skiers and boarders jumping off cliffs and sun worshippers galore. Instead the film was a clever, concise documentary of the birth, struggles and success of a world-class ski resort. One of the more poignant moments occurred when the moderator asked the audience to stand up. Confused by the request, we did as asked. He then asked all those who have used Whistler for less than 10 years to sit down. Then he asked for those who have used Whistler for 20 years or less to sit down, then 30 years, then 40 years. At 45 years a few were still standing but at over 50 years, just a handful l of gray haired athletes... ...

If anyone ever invites you on a bucket list mission – it is your duty to say yes no matter what. By no means was this an ordinary Friday but rather a Ford Friday fun mission to Whistler with famed Bucket List author and travel journalist Robin Esrock we call #bucketlistYVR. Aside from myself, other Bloggers on this mission included Dennis Pang from Pangcouver, Vanessa Choot from Modern Mix Vancouver, James Chung from HelloVancity and Lee-Anne Ekland from Mom Paradigm . It was not until the day before the mission that we learned via Twitter who our adventure companions were. Everyone was excited, nervous, anxious and eager to try something as thrilling and adventurous as bobsledding. We met bright and early at Coastal Ford to briefly introduce ourselves and let Ford pair us with our ultimate ride. The best way to escape rainy day blues – go for a scenic drive in a vehicle made for fun! I let Will drive on the way up to Whistler so I could relax and soak up the... ...

Think of Whistler as a colour wheel, a kaleidoscope of bright, talented, multi-faceted individuals spinning around a flame of brilliant light. That light represents the mountains and the town. Each of these colourful characters shares a common passion. They live and breathe the here and now. They are game changers, humble and unaware, most of them too focused on their schtick to even notice that they are idolized. Little do they know, that years from now our kids will remember them as mountain gods. Since 1967 Whistler has attracted and bred a personality some like to call the ‘endless child’. This tribe continues to impact the resort scene in some shape or form. After 12 hours of après on the epic Longhorn Saloon & Grill patio interviewing a wide array of locals to find the who’s who in Whistler at this moment in time, my mission is almost complete. Humble to the core, these are some of the people of today who will impact Whistler tomorrow. Heather Paul Skier 1st... ...
Older than Whistler, Sun Peaks Resort recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. With the charm of a European ski resort, Sun Peaks in beautiful British Columbia has a Mayor, celebrity ski queen, a slopeside grade school called the Discovery Centre for Balanced Education and endless winter activities for the entire family. Sound like a slice of heaven? There’s more. BC’s interior is blessed with a unique kind of snow that is fluffy, smooth and dry and is referred to as champagne powder. This gem of a resort town is Canada’s second largest ski area with 4,270 acres and not one, not two but three mountain peaks. Just 45 minutes north of Kamloops, Sun Peaks offers guests multiple transportation options including an airport shuttle. Kick back and let someone else do the driving as you soak up the scenery en route to the kingdom of champagne dreams. To Canadians, Nancy Greene-Raine is a celebrity ski icon and the mountain mama of Sun Peaks Resort. An Olympic gold medalist and Canadian Senator, Greene-Raine says... ...
